Here are some updates from Charlie and my dad.
Ashley and I have spent the day here with Gail. She has been napping off and on , but arouses when we talk to her or mention a happy memory. She smiled at the blog messages and they sure brought back many happy memories for me and Ashley as we read them to her. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to send her messages of love.
Gail has taken a little bit of ensure and some juice. She seems to be comfortable and we are thankful for Maria for working so hard to care for her.
We are looking forward to Melissa's arrival tomorrow.
Even during this difficult time, Gail gives us small indications that she hears us and loves us. It has been a blessing to be here with her.
Charlie
Gail rested well Wednesday evening/Thursday morning. Now agitation is stablized, we are working with Hospice to shift to liquids, from pills, where ever possible. Where a substitute liquid does not exist, then pills are crushed and mixed with a bit of apple sauce. Also, there is hopefulness that given continuing stability, Gail's dosages of calming drugs may be reduced a bit, to facilitate greater "wakefulness."

My story:
Since many of you don't know what exactly is happening with me, I thought I'd tell my story here. April of 2007, I began noticing that I was having problems organizing my thoughts and saying the right things. Jim convinced me to go see my doctor, who ran an MRI. We got the results back in early May, and the diagnosis was that I have terminal brain cancer called Glioblastoma. The tumor takes up much of the left side of my brain, which makes reading, writing, and speaking pretty difficult for me. I had a craniotomy in mid-May, which confirmed my diagnosis. Through my friends at work, I met a great doctor who has helped me begin my treatments. I am now spending my time enjoying family and friends and living my life!

How generous you all are to share this personal and sacred time with so many. As we access the blog to get a feel for how things are going for you all, the comments within our own family circle is one of admiration and appreciation for the strength and compassion shown by Gail and those who love her most. We are appreciative of this touch with Gail, and all of you, to be able to know you a little better as miles and life's responsibilities have kept this from happening as we would desire.
Our prayers and thoughts are with each of you daily.
Friday, 4 PM
The Hospice visiting nurse just left, having attended to Gail and coached the family about how to care for her in her final hours. Gail appears to be in no pain, even as the vital systems of her body are now in the process of shutting down. Thanks to all, again, for those many, many who keep Gail and our family in your thoughts and prayers.

Dear Gail and Jim,
Jim. S. and I have appreciated your friendship and kindness to our Family. Having us over for a really Yummy Dinner, having the Choir BBQ's and taking us out for Dinner when we had just moved.Gail accompaning Jim many times when he would sing for an event.
Also, I very much enjoyed working with Gail in the R.S. and calling her with needs from the Sisters, and Gail and I would laugh about some silly little thing. (Gail could always see the lighter side of things.)And as we discussed how best to meet their needs. Gail would always assure me that we could handle things for the Sisters and the Ward. I miss seeing that sweet smile and hearing that infectious laugh and that never ending a positive attitude. Thanks for sharing yourselves with us Jim and Gail.
